Chargers select Denzel Perryman 48th overall

AP

With their first pick of the second day of the draft, the Chargers went for defense, taking Miami (Fla.) inside linebacker Denzel Perryman with the No. 48 pick.

At the least, Perryman (5-11, 236) will prove depth behind Manti Te’o and Donald Butler at inside linebacker, and given his draft standing, it’s possible he could push to start. He notched 110 tackles (9.5 for loss) in 2014 and earned an invite to the Senior Bowl.

The Chargers have just three selections left: one in the third round (83), one in the fifth round (153) and one in the sixth-round (192).
