Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll acknowledged that defensive lineman Michael Bennett made a “real mistake” by going after Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton following an interception during Sunday’s loss.
After Seahawks safety Earl Thomas intercepted the Bengals signal-caller in the end zone late in the first half, Bennett was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct for laying out Dalton, in essence nullifying a 68-yard return and costing the Seahawks 50 yards in field position.
And while Carroll in a sense hearkened back to the violent-but-halcyon days of yore when quarterbacks were targeted during returns following turnovers, he nevertheless conceded it was a poor decision on Bennett’s part.
