Carolina Panthers place Pro Bowl center Ryan Kalil on injured reserve

The Panthers' disappointing season has taken another hit, as they placed starting center Ryan Kalil and his backup, Gino Gradkowski, on injured reserve, the club announced on Tuesday.

Kalil, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, left Week 11 with a shoulder injury and didn't travel for the club's close loss versus the Raiders on Sunday. The 31-year-old started the first eight games of the season, then missed two before returning to play the Saints.

The 10-year veteran is under contract through 2018.

Gradkowski, his backup, heads to IR with an ankle injury. The 28-year-old started three games for the Panthers this season.
