With mounting injuries in the secondary, the Panthers have turned to veteran safety Stevie Brown, signing him to a one-year deal, the team announced Wednesday.
Brown, 29 and out of football last season, was recently released by the Chiefs. The Panthers flirted with possibly adding safety Dashon Goldson before the Falcons pulled the trigger.
The Panthers' secondary overhaul of sorts is well-documented, and despite extending ball hawk Kurt Coleman for three-years, injuries to backups Dean Marlowe and recently released Trenton Robinson made the unit too taxed, the Panthers apparently decided. Linebacker Brian Blechen was forced into helping during the last preseason game.
