Cardinals Make Welter NFL's First Female Coach

The Arizona Cardinals have hired Dr. Jen Welter to their coaching staff, making her the first female coach in NFL history. And she won't be helping them with their nutrition or flexibility or training. She will be a training camp/preseason intern coaching inside linebackers, teaching the Mike Minters and Sean Weatherspoons of the world how to pursue and tackle.

Welter, who holds a masters degree in sports psychology and a PhD in psychology, started playing rugby while attending Boston College, then played 14 years of American football, mostly in the Women's Football Alliance. In 2014, she became the first female non-kicker to play in a men's professional league, lining up at running back for the Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League (who have some pretty cool uniforms).
