The Carolina Panthers made a pair of quarterback moves today -- neither involving Cam Newton.
First they signed free agent P.J. Walker. Walker played his college ball at Temple, where his head coach was Matt Rhule (who is now Carolina's head coach after spending three years at Baylor). He went undrafted in 2017, then spent two-plus years bouncing on and off the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. After he failed to make the team in 2019, he was drafted by the XFL and allocated to the Houston Roughnecks. He was one of the statistical stars in the new league's abbreviated season, throwing for 1,338 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions as the Roughnecks went 5-0.
