The viral altercation involving former NFL star Cam Newton followed a "heated game" Saturday between the 7-on-7 team he oversees and an opposing team, according to one of the event's organizers.
Nehemiah Mitchell, who co-founded We Ball Sports, called it "an unfortunate situation" in an interview with The Athletic's Lukas Weese and Joseph Person.
Videos surfaced Sunday of Newton fighting two coaches from TopShelf Performance, an Atlanta-based training facility that had teams taking part in the youth football showcase.
Mitchell told Weese and Person that a TopShelf team earned a victory over C1N, Newton's squad, the day before the fight in a game that had "a lot of trash talk," per the report.
