Bucs’ Akeem Spence faces one-game substance-abuse suspension

Buccaneers defensive tackle Akeem Spence is facing a one-game suspension for a violation of the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Spence’s suspension stems from his 2014 arrest on a marijuana possession charge.

The suspension doesn’t mean a whole lot to the Buccaneers, as Spence was expected to miss the first month of the season anyway as he recovers from back surgery. The suspension does mean, however, that Spence will lose one-seventeenth of his 2015 salary of $585,000. So for Week One, he won’t get his standard weekly paycheck of $34,411.
