Bruce DeHaven grateful to be sweating it out after cancer diagnosis

Nobody was happier to be standing on a football field after a 99-degree June practice than Panthers special teams coach Bruce DeHaven.

With what he’s been through the last few months, and what’s ahead, his gratitude is natural.

Mo hotter, mo better. Only two things I’ve never done, been too hot or had too much fun. Let ‘er burn,” DeHaven said, via Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review.

The 66-year-old DeHaven took a medical leave from the team this spring when doctors discovered cancer. He’s back now, with some help from veteran special teams coach Russ Purnell, who will cover for him when he’s away getting treatment.
