Veteran left tackle Branden Albert announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced.

The Jaguars had acquired Albert this offseason from the Miami Dolphins for a 2018 seventh-round draft pick. He had stayed away from the team's voluntary portion of workouts because he wanted a new contract.

The Jaguars, however, said in April that they had no plans to negotiate a new deal with Albert.

His contract with the Dolphins included $26 million guaranteed, all of which was paid in 2014-16. Albert was due a base salary of $8.
