Vito Parilli, better known as Babe, a two-time all-American under Coach Bear Bryant at the University of Kentucky and then a quarterback for 15 seasons for five National Football League and American Football League teams, died Saturday morning in Parker, Colo. He was 87, and he lived in Denver.

Parilli died of complications from cancer — specifically multiple myeloma, which he had been fighting for years, Fran Black, a longtime family friend, said in a telephone interview late Saturday. The New England Patriots, a franchise for which Parilli played, also released a statement on Saturday confirming Parilli’s death.
