Touching the ball in an N.F.L. game for just the third time in his career, David Johnson of the Arizona Cardinals scored the longest touchdown in his team’s 96-season history.
A rookie running back taken in the third round of this year’s draft out of Northern Iowa, Johnson received the Chicago Bears’ opening kickoff at the back of his own end zone. After navigating through some traffic in the first third of the field, he ran free for the final 50 yards. The 108-yard touchdown topped the previous franchise mark of 106 yards, which was recorded on a kick return by Roy Green in 1979.
