Apparently desperate Giants sign Brandon Meriweather

The Giants have been losing defensive backs to injury seemingly by the hour, and it’s gotten to the point that the team signed veteran safety Brandon Meriweather on Sunday.

Meriweather has twice served suspensions for hits involving his helmet and/or hits on defenseless players. A two-game suspension served last season for a preseason hit was based on his history of such incidents.

The Giants need warm bodies and experience, so Meriweather fits as a low-cost addition. Rookie safety Mykkele Thompson was placed on injured reserve this weekend after suffering a torn Achilles tendon in the preseason opener in Cincinnati, and fellow safeties Landon Collins and Nat Berhe are day-to-day with injuries.
