NFL kickers aren’t having trouble with the new, longer extra points this preseason — with one exception.
Titans kicker Ryan Succop missed an extra point wide right on Friday night, becoming the first kicker in the league to miss an extra point under the NFL’s new rule, which makes extra point kicks 13 yards longer than they were in the past. NFL kickers are now 39-for-40 on extra points this preseason.
That 97.5 percent rate is in line with what most people expected when the extra point rule changed. Extra points are a little harder now, but only a little: The rule changes extra points from the equivalent of a 20-yard field goal to a 33-yard field goal.
