Chargers owner Dean Spanos said in a statement Wednesday, one day after his club's downtown stadium measure failed, 57 percent to 43 percent, further stadium talks will be tabled until the 2016 season concludes. With provisional ballots yet to be counted, according to USA TODAY Sports, 169,000 residents voted against the measure, compared to 127,000 votes in favor of Ballot Measure C, which sought a four-percent tourist tax hike to help fund the $1.8 billion downtown stadium and convention center.
A two-thirds approval was needed.
"First and foremost, I want to thank everyone that worked so hard throughout this campaign," he said.
