Lawyers for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez filed an appeal of his first-degree murder conviction on Tuesday.
According to documents obtained by Brian Fraga of the Herald News (via the MetroWest Daily News), Hernandez's lawyers say "no rational jury" would have convicted Hernandez of the murder of former semipro football player Odin Lloyd.
An appeal was automatically filed following Hernandez's conviction by Massachusetts law, but these documents offer insight into how his representation will attempt to win the case.
The filing claims jurors used “improper speculation, conjecture and guesswork” to convict Hernandez, a former Pro Bowler who was arrested for Lloyd's murder in 2013.
