NFL Preseason Week 3 - The San Francisco 49ers have officially waived running back Trey Sermon, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. According to Schefter, the move makes room for former Cleveland Browns guard Blake Hance, who the 49ers claimed off waivers earlier in the day.
Sermon was selected by San Francisco in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft, expected to see significant reps as a backup back behind Raheem Mostert. However, when Mostert went down Week 1 with a knee injury, it was undrafted rookie Elijah Mitchell who filled the role over Sermon.
