49ers rookie Reuben Foster to be out longer than he hoped with high ankle sprain

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - After Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers rookie linebacker Reuben Foster vowed to return from a right ankle injury "very, very, very soon."

On Monday afternoon, Niners coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that though Foster's injury wasn't as serious as the team first feared, Foster won't be back as fast as he hoped. Following further tests on the ankle, Shanahan said Foster suffered a high ankle sprain.

And though the Niners don't have a timetable for Foster's return, it will take some time for him to get back on the field.
