The third week of the NFL preseason is in the books and there are several rumors around trades and other moves. Just the final week is left in the preseason and there will be a flurry of roster cuts and even trades over the next week and a half or so. As a result, the rumor mill is heating up with all the latest on those position battles, injuries, potential cuts, signing and more. Here are top the NFL rumors and news you need to know:
Vontaze Burfict Suspension And Appeal
The major news that broke late Sunday night was the Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict is facing a five-game suspension because of a hit on Chiefs FB Anthony Sherman in the preseason. An appeal is now pending for Burfict and the Bengals (and others) are backing him up. The team says the hit was legal.
"The Bengals are aware of the NFL’s letter to Vontaze regarding a play in last weekend’s game," the Bengals said in a statement. "The film shows that the hit was legal, that Vontaze engaged his opponent from the front, and that contact was shoulder-to-chest. The Club will support Vontaze in the appeal process."
Burfict says Sherman told him it was a legal hit. The play was away from the ball and complete unnecessary, but as long as Burfict didn't make contact to the head or neck area, it's not an illegal play. That decision on the legality will not be up to the NFL. Instead, an independent hearing officer (either Derrick Brooks or James Thrash, both former NFL players), will make that call. If the officer determines that the hit was legal, there's no basis for a suspension and should be eliminated. If it is illegal, Burfict's past history of dirty plays will likely result in the suspension staying at five games.
"No Chance" Dolphins Trade Jarvis Landry
Following the report from Michael Lombardi that the Dolphins would "seriously listen" to offers for WR Jarvis Landry, the team has told Landry he's not being traded.
"I did talk to him," head coach Adam Gase said today. "I told him there’s no chance he’s being traded. If something that’s not true comes out like that, I’m going to approach the player and tell him what really is the story."
Landry is looking for a hefty new contract, but talks with Miami haven't exactly advance very far. That's part of the reason behind the trade rumors. Landy's future is still unclear, but if Gase is telling the truth, he'll at least be in Miami for this year.
Ravens Lose Another Player For Season
The Ravens have been hit incredibly hard by injuries again this year. They've not lost another player, as LB Albert McClellan is done for the year.
LB Albert McClellan tore his ACL in practice last week and will miss the season.

McClellan is the 8th player since the start of June to be ruled out for the entire season, with a few others also dealing with injuries (like QB Joe Flacco and CB Maurice Canady, the latter of whom should start the year on IR). McClellan had 52 tackles and one sack last year in 11 starts. He was expected to be the top backup ILB for the Ravens, behind C.J. Mosley and Kamalei Correa.
