The NFL trade deadline came and went without a great deal of action, but there are still plenty of rumors swirling around the league. The season is still hitting the halfway point this weekend, and as a result, injuries are piling up for several teams throughout the league. From signings to ongoing position battles, here the latest NFL news and rumors below.
McCoy feels ready to play
Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy missed the team's loss to the Patriots last weekend with a hamstring injury, but he expects to return Monday night against the Seahawks:
“I feel good,” McCoy said, via the Buffalo News. “Mentally, I feel great. . . . Just getting over that step of, ‘if I make this hard cut, will I feel it?’ I did it today, different runs. So I’m ready to roll.
“As a competitor, how I am, I want to go out there and play so I won’t regret it. I feel a lot better today than in the past.”
McCoy has 598 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 112 carries so far this season.
Kessler to start for Browns
Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson announced that quarterback Cody Kessler will start on Sunday, via Browns.com:
“He has some uncanny ability, some moxie and poise and he's demonstrated that,” Jackson said, adding the coaching staff will keep evaluating the rookie moving forward.
Kessler, who is set to make his sixth start, was sidelined with a concussion last week.
Initially thrown into the fire after injuries to Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown, the third-round draft pick from USC has show poise and promise thus far, completing 67 percent of his passes for 947 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception.
Kessler received the nod over the veteran McCown, who returned from a shoulder/collarbone injury against the Ravens in Week 2.
Kessler has passed for 947 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in five games this season.
Kuechly expected to play for Panthers
Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly did not practice either Thursday or Friday this week due to a groin injury, which has him listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams. However, the team expects him to play, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press:
Luke Kuechly didn't practice today, bur Rivera expects him to play on Sunday. Same with Mario Addison.
