The first full week of the NFL preseason is officially underway, and 14 more teams will take the field for the first time tonight. That means the NFL rumor mill is starting to really pick up with various roster moves, holdouts, extensions, injuries and possible trades. Here are all the latest NFL rumors you need to know:
Calvin Johnson considering comeback
Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson retired prior to the 2016 season at the age of 30, but he is now considering coming out of retirement, according to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report.
According to a number of NFL sources, at least a half-dozen teams have reached out to retired wide receiver Calvin Johnson to gauge whether he would consider returning to the field, but Johnson has said no. Still, the attempts to convince Johnson to make a comeback have been fairly fierce.
The Lions still control Johnson's rights since he retired while he was still under contract, meaning Detroit would have to trade him if he were to play for another team. We still don't know who the six teams are the have inquired about him, but the New England Patriots have been the team he has been most linked to this offseason.
Johnson has caught 731 passes for 11,619 yards and 83 touchdowns in his career.

NFL clears Martavis Bryant for preseason activities
The NFL has informed Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant that he can participate in team activities during the preseason, including practices and games, the team said in a statement.
Bryant received a conditional reinstatement from the league in April following his year-long suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The league still hasn't made a decision on Bryant's eligibility for the regular season.
Bryant had 50 catches for 765 yards and six touchdowns in his last season in 2015.

NFL wants to expand regular season
Commissioner Roger Goodell has routinely stated his desire to expand the regular season from 16 games to 18, and it's something the league still wants to do, according to ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio.
However, with growing concerns about player safety and as we learn more and more about CTE, it doesn't seem like a realistic possibility unless the players agree to it during the next collective bargaining agreement in 2021. For that to happen, the players would need a significant return.
The players biggest desire is for contracts to be fully guaranteed and they are already planning to endure a long work stoppage in order to get what they want. The length of the season is an issue we'll continue to hear about for the next several years.
