Jason Garrett Not On The Hot Seat
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said head coach Jason Garrett won't be on the hot seat going into next season, according to Cowboys beat writer Nick Eatman.
"It’s fair for you to ask," said Jones Tuesday at a Senior Bowl practice in Mobile, Alabama. "But he’s not on my hot seat."
In the seven years, Garrett has been to the playoffs twice and holds a 1-2 record. After leading the Cowboys to a 13-3 record in 2016, Dallas dealt with issues on and off the field, which contributed to their 9-7 record. Garret may not be on the hot seat entering the season, but if the Cowboys get off to a rough start, the Cowboys coaching rumors will start flowing in and Garrett's seat may get hot quick.
Darrell Bevell Interviewing For Vikings OC
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports, former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will interview for the Vikings' offensive-coordinator position this week.
The Vikings are searching for a new offensive coordinator because former OC Pat Shurmur jumped ship and accepted a new job as head coach for the New York Giants.
The Seahawks failed to make the playoffs with a 9-7 record, which likely led to his firing. Bevell was the OC in Seattle since 2010, the first year that head coach Pete Carroll was hired. The Seahawks ranked 15th in the NFL with 330.4 yards per game and continued to worsen as the season went on in 2017.
Giants Hire James Bettcher As DC
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported, the Giants have hired former Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher as their new defensive coordinator.
Bettcher was in the running for the Cardinals head coaching job, but after Arizona decided to hire Steve Wilks instead, he decided to take his talents to New York. Bettcher was the defensive coordinator for the Cardinals for the past three seasons after Todd Bowles left to be the head coach of the New York Jets.
While in Arizona, Bettcher ran a 3-4 defense so it will be interesting to see what type of defense the Giants will implement after a season in a 4-3 system.
