A report from ESPN's Seth Wickersham prior to the playoffs suggested there was a power struggle going on within the New England Patriots organization, and the decision to trade quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly angered him to the point where he might leave the team.
He was linked to the New York Giants job in the wake of that report, but in typical Belichick fashion, he refused to talk about it.
Now, with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels returning to New England after turning down the Indianapolis Colts head coaching job, many took that as a sign that he's the head-coach-in-waiting behind Belichick, who may not be on the sidelines much longer.
