The buzz surrounding NFL free agency is rather quiet, as most teams have already set their 90-man roster. While most of the big names are off the market, there are still a few high quality players who could sign with new teams. These players could have a big impact for whichever team they play for next season.
While there's only one starting-quality QB on the market, there are a few players who could be backups. We've cut the list down to three, meaning players like Matt Flynn, Mike Vick and Josh Freeman missed out. With that in mind, here are the top three remaining free agent quarterbacks - and where they could sign:
3. Jimmy Clausen
The former second round pick has served as a backup for much of his career. He started with the Panthers, before moving to the Bears and the Ravens late last year. He's not a starter and isn't even a high-end backup, but there are much worse options for a No. 2 or No. 3 QB than Clausen.
Landing Spot: None, For Now
There isn't an obvious spot for Clausen right now. The Ravens had Joe Flacco back, and Ryan Mallett is the clear backup. There's also Josh Johnson on the roster, and the Ravens might not even carry three QBs. So while Clausen still merits a spot on some roster, he might not sign for a bit. If/when a starting or backup QB goes down with an injury Clausen will find a spot. But which team that will be is completely unknown.
2. Tarvaris Jackson
Another former second round pick, Jackson has been the backup QB in Seattle since 2013. He had a brief starting role with Seattle in 2011, and has played for the Vikings and Bills. He's not a starter, but fits for a team looking for a backup who offers some mobility.
Landing Spot: Seahawks
The Seahawks wanted to bring Jackson back earlier this offseason, but haven't done so. That was the same case last season, when Jackson didn't return to Seattle until June. While the team might be high on UDFA Trevone Boykin, the team lacks veteran depth. Don't be surprised if Jackson resigns with the Seahawks before training camp.
1. Ryan Fitzpatrick
Fitzpatrick started for the Jets last year, nearly leading them to a playoff berth. He completed 59.6 percent of his passes, throwing for 3,905 yards, 31 TDs and 15 picks. A classic journeyman, Fitzpatrick is a starting-caliber QB, despite turning 34 years old.
Landing Spot: Jets
Fitzpatrick's contract demands are really the only reason he hasn't signed yet. He overplayed his hand and he'll eventually end up back with the Jets. Unless a starting QB goes down and a team panics and overpays, Fitzpatrick will be back with the Jets next season.
