NFL fandom isn't about money, status or Twitter followers. It's about the energy and passion fans bring for their team. Not just on game day, but every chance they get whether that be on Sunday or a random Thursday in July.
While there are numerous of ways to define "worst," we're focusing on the fan bases that just don't seem to care about their teams the same way others do. Every fan base has their true supporters, but these five fan bases don't match up to the rest of the NFL. With that in mind, here's our list of The 5 Worst Fan Bases In The NFL Right Now.
The Dolphins have gotten a bit better in recent years, but the fan base still struggles to truly support the team. Perhaps it's the nice weather that keeps fans away from the stadium, or perhaps it's the lack of success from a team that has made the playoffs just once since 2001. It's probably a little bit of both, but the end result is that Dolphins' fan base is among the worst in the NFL.
Atlanta is a tough town for pro sports franchises, with the Braves, Hawks and Falcons all struggling to support and even sell out most of their games. The eventual new stadium should help, but this college football town is "meh" at best about the Falcons. The passionate Falcon fans won't appreciate this, but the full-fledged support just isn't there like it is for the most of the NFL. To be frank, the Bucs nearly took this place over the Falcons.
There's something just not right about the in-stadium experience in San Diego. Especially as of late, there hasn't been any home-field advantage for the Chargers. The players weren't happy about the lack of support and it only seems like a matter of time now before the team leaves San Diego and heads for Los Angeles. While the team's struggles as of late haven't helped, the Jacksonville hasn't done a good job of supporting their team. There's a reason this team often plays in London and is always mentioned as a possible relocation candidate. If the team starts to improve, perhaps the fan base will be more supportive. But even then, that just makes Jacksonville a group of fair-weather fans.
The Rams left St. Louis this year, and are now heading to Los Angeles. Even in St. Louis, the Rams' fan base was no longer in support like they were during the Greatest Show On Turf days. With their location in flux and the fan base divided between those happy the Rams are returning to LA and upset they're leaving St. Louis, the Rams are going to suffer from a fracture fan base for a little bit. There's also the matter of Los Angeles not exactly supporting its last NFL franchise well last time. Things have changed, but Los Angeles needs to prove itself to get out of last place on this list.
