The NFL season is at it's halfway point, and several head coaches already find themselves firmly on the hot seat. If they don't get their seasons turned around - and fast - they will likely be out of the job at the end of the season (some maybe before then). Here are the five coaches who are already on the hot seat:
Chuck Pagano, Indianapolis Colts
Pagano narrowly kept his job last season after the Colts missed the playoffs, but he won't be so lucky this time around. With Andrew Luck under center, this team expects to win the lackluster AFC South and make the playoffs each and every season. If they miss out for the second straight season, Pagano is gone. That is looking more and more like the case thanks to their 3-5 mark in the first half - good for just third in the division.
Gus Bradley, Jacksonville Jaguars
Speaking of other teams in the AFC South, Bradley was nearly fired after Jacksonville lost to the Titans on Thursday. The Jaguars were expected to do a lot of losing under Bradley as they rebuilt the franchise, but this was supposed to be their breakout year - and now they're just 2-5. The firing of offensive coordinator Greg Olson is a sign of things to come - Bradley will likely be fired midseason barring a substantial winning streak.
Marvin Lewis, Cincinnati Bengals
Lewis is somehow the second-longest tenured coach in the NFL despite not winning a single playoff game in Cincinnati. There have been rumors about his ousting at the end of each of the last two seasons, but survived both times. That won't be the case this year, and with the Bengals currently sitting with a 3-4-1 record, his future is looking bleak. Lewis' time in Cincy has simply run its course.
Todd Bowles, New York Jets
Bowles is just in his second season as New York's head coach, and you'd think after a 10-6 mark last year, his job would be relatively safe. Well, a 1-5 start for a team with playoff aspirations will certainly undermine that. Back to back wins over the Ravens and Browns have brought their record to 3-5, but those two wins aren't exactly wins that will inspire confidence. Their next three games against the Dolphins, Rams and Patriots will tell us a lot about this team.
Rex Ryan, Buffalo Bills
Buffalo is playing solid football with a 4-4 record, but Bills owner Terry Pegula made it very clear to both Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley before the season started - make the playoffs, or you're gone. As such, Ryan's future with the team is definitely in question until they accomplish that goal. They're currently in the midst of the wild card hunt, which is their only hope with the Patriots running away with the division.
