AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali is being 'forced out' of the club amid interest from Newcastle despite 'never wanting to leave', reports have claimed.
Magpies sporting director Dan Ashworth is in Italy as he hopes to secure a £55 million deal for the 23-year-old, who has been watched extensively by their scouts in recent months.
Tonali, who is currently away with Italy for the Under 21 Euros, was a key player at the San Siro last season, playing 48 games across all competitions.
He has been nicknamed the 'new Pirlo' as both midfielders started at Brescia before joining Milan, but is a more industrious player than the Italy legend and could be vital in feeding Newcastle's attacking players if he does sign.
