Northumbria Police have confirmed they are investigating allegations of non-recent sexual abuse at both Newcastle United and Sunderland’s Foundation of Light charity.
The North-East force launched Operation Tide in December and 25 victims have since come forward in relation to eight suspects across nine sporting clubs in the region.
Former Newcastle players Derek Bell and David Eatock both waived their right to anonymity last year when they revealed they were abused by former academy coach George Ormond, who was convicted in 2002 of abusing Bell and six others at Montagu and North Fenham Boys Club in the late 1970s and was sentenced to six years in prison.
