Newcastle unveil £250,000 statue in honour of club legend Alan Shearer outside St James' Park

A statue of Newcastle's record goalscorer Alan Shearer was finally unveiled outside St James' Park on Monday, as was revealed by Sportsmail’s Charles Sale last week.

The entire £250,000 cost of the long awaited sculpture has been met by former club chairman Freddy Shepherd and his family.

Shearer was joined by former manager Kevin Keegan and former coach Terry McDermott as the covering was lifted off.
