Newcastle are close to finalising the transfer of Florian Lejeune from Eibar for £8.7million.
The clubs have been negotiating the structure of payment for the 26-year-old French defender, who was on Tyneside on Monday to undergo a medical after the two clubs agreed terms.
The delay surrounded the way in which payments were to be structured, but that that issue has now been resolved and the Magpies hope to complete their swoop later this week.
Central defender Lejeune joined the La Liga club last summer from Manchester City, having spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Girona from the Etihad Stadium.
