Newcastle manager Eddie Howe says he is unlikely to be able to solve his side's poor form and injury woes in the January transfer window.
Howe added he has been given no "assurances" he will have funds to spend in the new year.
The Magpies' slump has seen them lose six of their past seven games in all competitions and exit both the Champions League and the Carabao Cup.
"January is always a difficult month," said Howe.
"I apologise if I sound like I'm saying the same things, but it is a very difficult month to bring in quality players.
