Matt Targett is closing in on a move to Newcastle from Aston Villa with the Magpies prepared to trigger the option to sign him permanently.
The left-back had a successful loan spell at St James' Park during the second half of last season and it is understood he is poised to become a Newcastle player, for a fee of between £12-15m.
Targett's future was thrown into doubt when Villa signed Lucas Digne from Everton for £25m last winter and Targett's departure will likely see Villa look for a younger understudy to Digne.
Villa have already been active in the market since the end of the season, clinching the free transfer signing of France midfielder Boubacar Kamara and Brazilian defender Diego Carlos, in a deal that could be worth about £30m.
