Newcastle United had scouts at Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday to see the excellent Florian Wirtz score a cracker against Union St Gilloise in their Europa League quarter-final.
The midfielder netted the equaliser in the game for the hosts in the 82nd minute after Victor Boniface had opened the scoring, with the match finishing 1-0.
Newcastle were listed among the scouts again as Leverkusen visited Wolfsburg on Sunday but 19-year-old attacking midfielder Wirtz started on the bench.
He was booked after coming on in the second half, though the game finished 0-0.
Wirtz is regarded as one of the best talents in Germany and Leverkusen are reluctant to sell.
