Newcastle and Sheffield United pay tribute to former striker John Tudor after his death at 78

Newcastle and Sheffield United have paid tribute to former striker John Tudor following his death at the age of 78.

Tudor, who also played for Coventry City and Stoke City, had been battling dementia while living in the United States with his wife, Anne.

Ilkeston-born Tudor is perhaps best known for the formidable partnership he formed with Malcolm Macdonald at St James' Park during the early 1970s, collecting a runners-up medal in the 1974 FA Cup final and also winning the Anglo-Italian Cup and the Texaco Cup with the Magpies.

A statement on the club's official website said: 'Newcastle are saddened to hear of the death of popular former player John Tudor at the age of 78.
