Newcastle have a deal in place to sign Aston Villa left-back Matt Targett on loan for the rest of the season.
The 26-year-old has found himself relegated to understudy following the arrival of Lucas Digne at Villa Park.
But Targett now looks set to join the Magpies after an agreement was reached between the clubs.
Newcastle had agreed a £16m deal with Leverkusen for left-back Mitchel Bakker but attention turned to Targett in the middle of last week, as revealed by Sportsmail. We understand a loan fee and a survival bonus will be paid to Villa as part of the deal.
