Jamie Carragher names Eddie Howe as his manager of 2022 after converting Newcastle from relegation candidates to European contenders... insisting the Saudi-owned Magpies wouldn't be better off if they had hired Guardiola or Klopp instead

Jamie Carragher has overlooked Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola in his award for the best football manager of 2022 - instead opting for Newcastle's Eddie Howe.

The former Bournemouth coach took charge of the Magpies in November last year - with the club amidst a relegation dog-fight - and has helped oversee their rise up to third in the Premier League table.

Howe has helped revitalise the Newcastle squad and Carragher insisted 'the quality of their coach' has played a bigger role in the club's 12-month transformation than their new Saudi owners.
