Newcastle United continued their dominance of the Championship as they eased past in-form Leeds United thanks to a Dwight Gayle double on an emotional day at Elland Road.
In the 11th minute, all 36,002 fans in the stadium rose to applaud and chant the name Gary Speed. The former Leeds and Newcastle midfielder died five years ago this week, and his parents were at the game to witness the touching tribute.
On the pitch, Newcastle went in front after 23 minutes when Leeds keeper Rob Green dropped a long-range Jack Colback lob at the feet of Championship top scorer Gayle, and the former Crystal Palace poacher bagged his 13th strike of the season when he finished off a good passing move ten minutes after half time.
