Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey was sent off for a second yellow during the FA Cup fifth round clash with Newcastle.
The right-back was first booked on the half hour mark after a late challenge on Anthony Gordon.
And Lamptey's afternoon went from bad to worse in injury-time when he failed to control a pass from Jan Paul van Hecke.
Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy then pounced before Lamptey lunged in to bring him down.
Referee Anthony Taylor didn't hesitate as he gave the Brighton defender his marching orders
Lamptey's red card meant Brighton lost their man advantage after Newcastle were also reduced to 10-men eight minutes earlier.
