Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon was not aware he was banned from driving when getting behind the wheel this week, Sportsmail understands.
Reports over the weekend suggested the 21-year-old could be jailed having been pictured driving whilst disqualified on Wednesday.
However, it is thought Gordon was banned in absentia on Monday when correspondence was sent to an old address.
The ban was for twice failing to disclose the details of the driver of his car.
The £40million January signing was only made aware of the situation when his new club was contacted by a national newspaper last week.
