Alan Shearer 'proud' to be made a CBE as England legend is honoured for charity work

Former England captain Alan Shearer has been honoured with a CBE in recognition of his charity work.

Shearer, the all time Premier League top goalscorer with 260 strikes, received the honour on Tuesday at Buckingham Palace from Prince William, who is also president of the FA.

The Match of the Day pundit wrote on Twitter: 'Very honoured and proud to receive my CBE today in recognition of my charity work. Thank you to everyone who supports me.'
