Aberdeen are close to agreeing deals to sign Hamburg centre-half David Bates and Newcastle United midfielder Matthew Longstaff.
Scotland cap Bates, who left Rangers for Hamburg in 2018, is out of favour at the Bundesliga 2 club.
A fee has been agreed with Aberdeen for a permanent switch to Pittodrie.
Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce expects 21-year-old Longstaff to accept a season-long loan offer from the Scottish Premiership club.
Longstaff has found his chances at St James' Park limited and is yet to play a senior game this season.
"The kid is desperate to go and play football, Aberdeen is a good club and a decent place to go and play, so good luck to him," Bruce said.
