The MLB trade deadline on July 31st is rapidly approaching, and the trade rumors around the New York Yankees are starting to heat up. The Yankees are 42-44, but only a few games back of a Wild Card berth - meaning the Yankees could decide to be either sellers or buyers as the deadline gets closer. With that in mind, here all the latest Yankees trade rumors:
New York targeting Wil Myers?
The Yankees have a problem in the middle of their order with Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Carlos Beltran all having less-than-satisfactory seasons - leading to questions about their futures with the franchise. According to Fansided's Evan Halpine-Berger, the Yankees are targeting Wil Myers to help them both now and in the future:
One interesting name that has come up in recent trade rumors is San Diego Padres first basemanWil Myers. The 25-year-old Myers is in the midst of a breakout season with the Friars, hitting .295/.360/.543 in his first 361 plate appearances. He was recently named to his first All Star team, and appears to be on the cusp of stardom as long as he can stay healthy.
That has been the Myers’ biggest problem in his young career. He has yet to make it through a full MLB season, even though he first broke into the big leagues back in 2013.
San Diego is in full-on rebuilding mode, and while they may want to hold on to Myers, they could part with him for a few promising prospects.
Schwarber to Yankees won't happen?
Another name the Yankees are targeting to help in the middle of the order is Kyle Schwarber, but those rumors appear to be dead, according to NJ.com's Brendan Kuty:
If there are low points for trade rumors, the Kyle Schwarber-Yankees one just hit its nadir.
Recently, Cubs president Theo Epstein said that Schwarber, the team's young, lefty slugger wasn't going anywhere.
Schwarber had been connected to the Yankees as a possible piece New York would want in a trade sending stud reliever Andrew Miller to Chicago.
"I love this organization," Schwarber said Wednesday, accordion to ESPN. "I love this team. I want to stay here. Since he did say that, I did take that to heart. It means a lot.
"Rumors are going to be rumors. Until something actually happens, you don't worry about it."
However, Kuty lays out a deal that would help both teams - sending reliever Andrew Miller to the Cubs in return for Schwarber. The Cubs are shooting for a World Series title, and if New York decides to sell, Miller (or Aroldis Chapman, who they'd prefer to trade) would bring back the highest returns.
