Talks between the two sides had stalled late in the week due to New York's unwillingness to part with either Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier, two of their top prospects, though Oakland is now willing to look at other prospects. The Yankees have remained "optimistic" that they can get a deal done.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are among the teams that are also heavily pursing Gray, but neither has shown a willingness to come close to meeting Oakland's asking price.
New York has also expressed interest in acquiring Yu Darvish and Justin Verlander, but Gray is their top target due to his contract. He can't become a free agent until after the 2019 season.
Gray is 6-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 16 starts this season.
