The New York Yankees were one of five teams who were scouting coveted Cincinnati Reds righty Johnny Cueto during his Sunday start against the Cleveland Indians -- an abbreviated four-inning, two-earned run no decision in a 5-3 Reds loss.
With the Yankees' presence on Sunday in mind, CBS Sports insider Jon Heyman has named New York as one of five "most likely" landing spots for Cueto.
"That leaves the interesting fivesome of Toronto, Kansas City, New York, Los Angeles and Houston as the most likely and logical landing spots for one of baseball's best pitchers," Heyman wrote. "Cueto had two starts pushed back a couple days in the first half of the season, but there are no reasons for alarm bells. His 2.79 ERA is in line with his superb career, which includes five straight sub-3.00 ERAs since 2011, and his 0.95 WHIP and .199 BAA are among baseball's best marks."
Cueto's sub-1 WHIP (0.95) and 115/28 K/BB ratio are trending towards being the best of the 29-year-old Dominican Republic native's eight-year MLB career.
