The hours are ticking down in advance of Friday's 2015 MLB Trade Deadline, and there's plenty of intrigue to go around surrounding all 30 MLB teams -- ESPECIALLY the New York Yankees. With that in mind, here's our Yankees Trade Rumors: 3 Things To Know At The Trade Deadline.
New York In The Mix To Acquire David Price
Per Erik Boland of Newsday (and several media reports), "the Yankees will not sit idly by in the David Price sweepstakes, which officially began in earnest Wednesday when Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski said all impending free agents on his roster, including the former Cy Young Award winner, are available."
The Yankees have not been willing to part with any of their top prospects -- pitcher Luis Severino, outfielder Aaron Judge, first baseman Greg Bird, and shortstop Jorge Mateo -- in trade scenarios prior to the deadline. It's unlikely that will change, but it's possible GM Brian Cashman could budge in some way, shape or form (or meet the Tigers in the middle) if he feels confident enough that he'll be able to extend Price on a long-term deal this winter.
If so, expect the Yankees to vault to the front of the upcoming "bidding war' for Price's services.
Cole Hamels Talks Stall
One reason why the Yankees are gearing up for a major run at Price is what is perhaps an insurmountable impasse between New York and the Philadelphia Phillies regarding Cole Hamels trade talks.
The Phillies reportedly demanded that one (or both) of the aforementioned Severino/Judge duo be included in such a swap -- a demand which the Yankees balked at.
Yankees End Craig Kimbrel Trade Talks
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, "the Yankees have rebuffed the Padres' request of top shortstop prospect Jorge Mateo in trade talks involving Craig Kimbrel, diminishing the chances for a Kimbrel deal."
The Washington Nationals were considered the frontrunners for Kimbrel before acquiring Jonathan Papelbon from the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday. Other potential interested parties include the Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros, but nothing substantive has been confirmed surrounding those two teams.
