The New York Yankees and manager Joe Girardi have mutually agreed to part ways, which came as a bit of a surprise given his success. Girardi had managed the Yankees since 2008, highlighted by a 2009 World Series title, and he never finished below .500 with New York. However, he was looking for a pay raise from the four-year, $16 million deal he just finished, which New York was not willing to give him.
This decision has now created the most desirable opening in the sport. New York has a promising young team with money to spend on free agents. The Yankees do have some promising in-house options, but we also know this franchise likes to make a splash with their hires and own the headlines.
As such, the folks at Bovada have released their odds on who the Yankees will hire to be their next manager:

Thomson, New York's bench coach, is the favorite to get promoted to manager. He has been with the organization since 2006. Espada, Penrique, and Pena are also currently on the Yankees' staff.
Former Yankee players Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi are among the candidates but are the biggest longshots.
