The New York Yankees acquired Jaime Garcia in a trade with the Minnesota Twins for Double-A right-hander Zack Littell and Triple-A lefty Dietrich Enns before the trade deadline, but they may have to give up more than that.
Enns was placed on the 10-day DL on Wednesday with a shoulder injury - an issue that cause him to miss two months of the season while he was still with the Yankees organization - and the Twins may seek additional compensation from New York if his shoulder issues prove to linger and be serious.
Enns was scheduled to have a MRI today but doesn't think this latest injury is the same as the one he suffered earlier in the year.
“It’s similar, but I don’t know if it’s exactly the same,” Enns said. “It feels different. I didn’t feel it when I was out there pitching in the game. Hopefully it’s nothing serious, and we’ll move forward.”
The 26-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery in 2014. It's unclear what extra compensation Minnesota would seek from the Yankees, if they choose to go that route.
Enns has only made two appearances with the Twins (the first two games in his MLB career) before the injury - one start and a 33-pitch relief appearance on Tuesday, during which he felt the discomfort that led to his trip to the DL. In total, he has a 6.75 ERA with two strikeouts in four innings with Minnesota.
Garcia has appeared in three games with the Yankees, posting an 0-1 record with a 6.32 ERA in 15.2 innings.
