Yu Darvish's Price Too High?
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Yankees are considering signing free agent pitcher Yu Darvish - but they will only do so if the price is right.
“New York Yankees people do like Yu Darvish, and at a reasonable price, he will be seriously considered,” Heyman reported Friday. “It seems everyone’s strategy this year is to wait for the price to drop”
Darvish is 31 years old coming off a season where he had a 3.86 ERA over 186.2 innings pitched.
Yankees Unlikely To Sign Alex Cobb
Alex Cobb is a cheaper pitching option that the Yankees were pursuing, but Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports the Chicago Cubs are the favorites to land Cobb because of his relationship with new pitching coach Jim Hickey.
Cobb is 30 years old and started in a career-high 29 games posting a 12-10 record with a 3.66 ERA over 179.1 innings pitched.
This is also a few days after Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Bill Brink reported that the Yankees put together trade packages for Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer and Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer. Both the Rays and Tigers declined the offer from New York.
Josh Harrison Interest
According to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Yankees have expressed interest in second baseman Josh Harrison as they continue to search for a middle infielder since Starlin Castro and Chase Headley are gone.
The 30-year-old is set to make $10.25 million in 2018 and his contract has club options for 2019 ($10.5 million) and 2020 ($11.5 million). Last season, Harrison batted .272 with a career-high 16 home runs in 128 games.
The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets are also interested in Harrison's services.
