The New York Yankees are the clear winners thus far this off-season, but this club is far from finished. It was rumored the Baltimore Orioles ended trade talks with the Yankees for star third baseman Manny Machado, but this may not be 100 percent true. If there is one takeaway from this off-season, never say it isn't possible for general manager Brian Cashman and the Yankees.

Manny Machado Trade Talks Resume
Machado is one of the hottest tickets available since the Orioles announced he was available this off-season. Machado has one year left on his current contract, which means next year he will be up for grabs.
According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Yankees talked to the Orioles this week and if New York is willing to meet Baltimore's demands, then New York may have the best chance at Machado.
Machado batted .259 with 33 homers and 95 RBIs in 156 games this past season.
Gleyber Torres Service Time
The Yankees have holes at both second and third base with last year's starters no longer on the roster. This is a major reason why they're interested in Machado (would fill the need at third base). Gleyber Torres would be taking over for Starlin Castro, who was traded to the Miami Marlins as part of the Giancarlo Stanton trade.
Torres is the number two prospect in baseball and the Yankees may play him in the minor leagues, in order to get an extra year out of him. A player needs to have six years of MLB experience before they can qualify for free agency. This is important because if Torres spends 12 days in the minors, then he will have another year with the Yankees. The baseball season is 183 days, but a player only needs 172 days in the majors to reach a full season.
Torres played in both Double-A and Triple-A last season, hitting .287 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 55 combined games.

Veteran Infielders Drawing Interest
The Yankees traded away Chase Headley and Starlin Castro which created a big hole in the infield. Torres may start at second or third base, but this still leaves an opening that will likely be filled by a few young players if New York doesn't make any more moves.
ESPN writer Andrew Marchand writes it's a pretty good bet Cashman acquires a veteran infielder before spring training starts.
The Yankees are linked to Pittsburgh Pirates Josh Harrison, St.Louis Cardinals Jedd Gyorko, former Yankees Eduardo Nunez, and free agent Yunel Escobar.
