Yankees Top Prospects For Chris Archer Trade
Rays' starting pitcher Chris Archer has been rumored to heading to New York for years and that rumor train isn't slowing down. According to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe, the Yankees may be one of the teams in the mix for Archer this summer.
"We await the future destination of Chris Archer," writes Cafardo." You know he's going to be the next and biggest name to be traded by the Rays, who are on a mission to deal their valuable assets for top prospects. Archer has forever been linked to the Dodgers, but the Brewers, Yankees, Phillies, Braves, Cardinals, and Orioles could also be in the mix for him."
This caused Ken Davidoff of the New York Post to write that perhaps trading big-named Yankees prospects and money, could get a deal done for Archer in the middle of the 2018 season.
"The Yankees will rely on their robust talent reserve to outflank other teams and, if necessary, induce the other team to pay down the financial commitment, so the Yankees can stay under $197 million," Davidoff stated.
Archer has been one of the best young right-handed pitchers with 162 appearances, 160 of which have been starts racking up 967 innings pitched with a 3.63 ERA since entering the league in 2012. The 29-year-old has one of the friendliest contracts in the majors including team options in 2020 and 2021. He is scheduled to make $34 million over the next four seasons, which is relatively cheap considering his success.

Aaron Boone Speaks About Lance Lynn And Alex Cobb
The Yankees pursuit of starting pitching depth has been a focal point of the offseason, but don't expect them to sign one of the top pitchers. Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reported that Aaron Boone was asked about the chances of pitchers like Lance Lynn and Alex Cobb joining the rotation.
“At this point, I don’t see those guys as realistic options it’s my understanding that those guys aren’t really in play for us,” said Boone.
The Yankees all offseason have stated they intend to stay under the $197 million luxury tax, which means New York isn't looking to spend big.
Both Lynn and Cobb have a strong track record, but the Yankees at the moment are confident in their starting rotation that includes; Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray, CC Sabathia, and Jordan Montgomery.
